Class Teacher Year 6
1:1 Teaching Assistant
Dear Parents of Year 6,
Welcome back to the Spring term which is one of the busiest terms for year 6 as they prepare for their SAT tests in May. It is important that your child attends school every day and arrives promptly, before 8.45am, to start lessons.
This term PE will continue to be on a Wednesday afternoon. The children can come to school wearing their school PE kit (trainers, white shirt, navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms, a navy hoodie or sweat top with no logos). When we can recommence tag rugby, this will take place on a Friday afternoon, every other week. A message will be sent home to inform you of this prior to the lesson.
Homework is reading each night with an adult signing the book on at least two occasions a week, the children can read to themselves the rest of the time and sign their reading record. They also have spellings set on a Monday to be tested on a Friday. Tables will be practised and tested in class, on a daily basis, but every evening, your child will have a maths activity, on Sumdog, to complete. Please make sure they do this as it is helping them revise for the upcoming tests. In addition, they will bring home a homework folder with comprehension activities, twice a week, on a Tuesday and Thursday. Your child will need to sit quietly, read the text and then answer the questions. The folder needs to come back to class the following day so we can mark it together.
Your child needs to bring fruit for their breaktime snack each day; school does not provide fruit for Key Stage 2 children. Your child also needs their own drink bottle to use throughout the day.
Here’s to another productive and enjoyable term where we continue to work as a team together. I have attached a copy of the planning for this term so you can see what aspects of the National Curriculum your child will be covering. Please ask if you have any questions.
