WELCOME TO GWITHIAN CLASS
In Gwithian class we welcome children with a smile and a hello every morning, providing a warm, welcoming environment where the children feel happy and safe. We believe this is the key to a positive start to the day and an effective learning environment. We strongly model positive behaviours and relationships to support all children in building friendships and relationships with peers and adults from all around the school.
We follow the ethos of play based learning for as long as suits the needs of the children, knowing when they are ready to begin more formal learning and making this transition flow effectively.
Currently the children engaged in Independent Learning for the most part of the day, with short literacy, maths and topic inputs to introduce the learning. As the year progresses the taught inputs will increase and focus tasks and activities will be more structured, with the afternoons remaining as Independent Learning.
Gwithian is a busy, bustling classroom, full of conversation, interaction and engagement. This might be when using numicon and paint to print number bonds, it could be role playing stories we have learnt or using lego to build the tallest tower or design a new building. Our recent learning has seen the children working really well together to use wooden blocks and animals to create a zoo the size of the carpet! Whenever you enter our classroom you will see and hear an abundance of learning and interactions and we believe this how it should be!
Please keep checking this page for new photos and updates of our fantastic learning! We love to show off what we are up to and what we can do!
PE is on a Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon- please make sure children have a full PE every week to ensure they can take part. We ask for PE kits to remain in school all week to allow for flexibility or additional PE sessions in the week.
Reading books will be changed on Tuesday and Friday - when they have been read in full.
Homework is due on a Wednesday
Thank you for visiting our page. Please take a look at our most recent topic work and memorable experiences!
In Year 1 we have a big focus on reading in preparation for the phonics screening check in June.
We ask that you listen to your child read 4 times per week to support with blending and comprehension.
We listen to each child read at least once per week and continually monitor their progress. We are keen to move children onto higher book bands but only when they are ready - giving them texts that are too difficult can hinder progression massively. Please trust that the adults are providing as much challenge as is suitable to your child and they will be moved onto higher books when they are ready. Teachers and teaching assistants look for a variety of skills when listening to children read. This includes but is not limited to; word reading, fluency, innotation and comprehension.
Below are downloadable copies of letters, homework and topic grids should you require them.
